Deactivation of silicone‑based defoamers is a very common phenomenon, not limited to silicone gel‑type defoamers. Other types of silicone defoamers also frequently experience deactivation; however, I will use silicone gel‑based defoamers as an example to discuss the causes and mechanisms of their deactivation, in the hope that this will be helpful. There are many reasons why silicone‑based defoamers become deactivated.

Advantages and Disadvantages, Main Categories, and Performance of Silicone Defoamers

1) Wide-ranging applications: Due to its unique chemical structure, silicone oil is insoluble in water and polar substances, as well as in hydrocarbons and other nonpolar organic compounds. This broad compatibility makes it suitable for defoaming in both aqueous and oil-based systems.
