As time has progressed, the challenges of building an ecological civilization have become impossible to ignore. From the concept of sustainable development to the idea that “lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets,” environmental protection has firmly established itself as a central theme in governance. To foster an ecological and resource‑friendly environment, sanitation authorities across the country have launched coordinated efforts, adopting a zero‑tolerance approach and, in accordance with regulations, shutting down numerous non‑compliant enterprises whose wastewater discharge caused severe pollution—actions that have sparked a wave of economic downturns. At the very least, companies in the wastewater‑treatment sector that had been polluting heavily have celebrated these developments. The water‑soluble defoamer is formulated from dimethyl silicone oil, precipitated silica, thickeners, and other ingredients, and is produced using emulsion technology to create a stable, water‑based dispersion. All raw materials and manufacturing processes are non‑toxic, offering rapid dispersion, swift demulsification, long‑lasting foam suppression, and excellent stability without layering.
The development trend of defoamers in the paper industry reflects a global shift: research on surfactants is evolving from single‑component formulations toward complex, multi‑component blends. Countries worldwide have invested substantial human resources, materials, and capital in surfactant formulation technologies, yielding numerous groundbreaking advances and significantly enhancing the overall performance of surfactants. Both the production techniques and applications of surfactants are advancing in depth. As a key member of the surfactant family, paper‑industry defoamers are following the same trajectory. Today, high‑efficiency defoamers—represented by oleamide, polyethers, and silicone‑based products—have fully replaced traditional, low‑performance types such as mineral oils, edible oils, and alcohols, making outstanding contributions to the papermaking process. Looking ahead, the paper industry will leverage the unique properties of oleamide, polyethers, silicones, and other specialized multi‑component systems, prioritizing the development of compounded formulations. Composite defoamers will eventually permeate every stage of papermaking operations. Although silicone‑based products currently command a premium price, as the cost of methylsilicone raw materials declines and synthesis routes improve, composite defoamers incorporating silicone‑based components are poised to dominate the future market.
Silicone defoamer Its composition determines that it possesses the following characteristics:
(1) In terms of organic chemical structure, it differs from other organosilicon defoamers; its specific functional groups are non‑optically active and do not exhibit associative interactions with water or with substances containing hydrocarbon groups or optically active functional groups.
(2) It exhibits superior demulsification performance compared to other organosilicon defoamers; typically, only a mass fraction of 1×10⁻⁶ to 75×10⁻⁶ needs to be added to achieve excellent demulsification results.
(3) In terms of physical properties, it exhibits plasticity compared to conventional chemical substances and is unlikely to undergo exothermic reactions with foaming agents.
(4) Silicone defoamers exhibit excellent thermal stability and resistance to both high and low temperatures. The viscosity of methyl silicone oil begins to rise gradually only at around 200°C, while its siloxane bonds remain intact and do not degrade.
(5) Methyl silicone oil exhibits excellent rigidity and wettability, thereby enabling silicone-based defoamers to enhance the quality of coated paper.
(6) Silicone-based defoamers are non-toxic, environmentally friendly, and biocompatible, making them green manufacturing chemicals that align with this contemporary trend.
(7) Silicone-based defoamers exhibit excellent aging resistance and superior performance, fully maintaining their effectiveness under all natural environmental conditions.
