A customer that manufactures ceramic wine bottles reported that their factory has been facing a severe foaming issue during the ceramic‑making process. These bubbles leave numerous pores on the surface of the finished wine bottles, directly compromising product quality and rendering many of the bottles unusable. The customer had previously tried several defoaming products, but with unsatisfactory results, so they turned to a defoamer manufacturer for a recommendation of an appropriate silicone‑based defoamer.
The editor has learned that the company primarily manufactures ceramic wine bottles in a variety of styles for local distilleries. Thanks to its carefully designed patterns and shapes, its ceramic wines have earned high praise from partner companies. However, after recently updating its product‑material formulation and launching premium‑grade bottle lines, the company has encountered foaming issues.
Technical personnel at the defoamer manufacturer analyzed the raw materials used to produce ceramic wine bottles and found that the primary components include clay, quartz, and feldspar. During production, these materials must be ground into fine particles, continuously mixed, and then melted to form a ceramic slurry. The slurry is then poured into the finished bottle molds. Due to the characteristics of the ceramic slurry, significant foam develops during the mixing process. Once this foamy slurry is poured into the molding cavities, the bubbles are difficult to collapse on their own, ultimately leading to porosity. If the foam does not break properly, undesirable defects may occur, such as surface mottling on the wine bottles.
To help customers quickly resolve foam-related issues, silicone-based defoamers not only eliminate foam rapidly but also provide long-lasting inhibition of foam formation, enabling customers to address a wide range of foaming challenges.
