I. Characteristics of silicone defoamers:
1. With low surface tension, dimethyl silicone oil exhibits a higher surface tension than water. Its surface tension is lower than that of aqueous surfactant solutions and typical oil solutions, resulting in strong defoaming performance; the recommended dosage is 5–200 ppm (based on active content).
2. Non-polar; insoluble in water, animal and vegetable oils, and high-boiling mineral oils; highly active. When a drop of toluene‑soluble silicone oil is placed on the water surface, it spreads out, significantly reducing the water’s surface tension. It exhibits defoaming efficacy in most foaming systems and provides excellent sustained foam suppression.
3. Excellent thermal stability and chemical resistance;
4. Can be used in the food, cosmetics, and pharmaceutical industries due to its physiological inertness;
5. A variety of foaming systems are available.
