What is the difference between non-silicone defoamers and silicone-based organic silicon defoamers?
In certain industrial processes, foam often poses significant challenges, reducing productivity and compromising product quality. To address this issue effectively, non‑silicone defoamers are an excellent choice. Currently, silicone‑based defoamers are widely employed; while they offer strong emulsion‑breaking performance, they can leave silicone residues that adversely affect product quality. At present, no truly ideal non‑silicone defoamer is available in China, and a comprehensive integration of relevant emulsion‑breaking theories was necessary to develop the T‑30C non‑silicone defoamer. Following trials by several manufacturers, the product has delivered highly satisfactory results.
Among organic compounds, many possess defoaming properties, such as saturated alkanes. However, saturated alkanes lack hydrophilic groups and cannot readily disperse in water, resulting in relatively poor emulsion‑breaking performance. Certain amines exhibit strong surface activity but weak intermolecular adhesion, so they do not form a robust protective film. Polyether surfactants demonstrate acceptable emulsion‑breaking at room temperature, yet their effectiveness diminishes at elevated temperatures. They generally display a degree of affinity for foaming agents, enabling them to penetrate bubbles and reduce the intermolecular cohesive forces, thereby achieving emulsion breaking.
Although the aforementioned substances each exhibit a certain degree of demulsification, their structural differences prevent them from delivering effective demulsification on their own. By blending them in specific proportions, synergistic effects can be harnessed to formulate defoamers that offer rapid demulsification and long-lasting foam‑suppressing performance. Accordingly, we have developed a non‑silicone defoamer that rivals comparable foreign products, while reducing plant costs and enhancing operational efficiency.
Non-silicone defoamers are specialized non-silicone emulsion-based defoamers, engineered with unique industrial formulations tailored for applications in the cleaning industry, adhesives, latex production, the paper-making industry, petrochemicals, and fertilizer manufacturing. They effectively address the limitations of polysiloxane‑based defoamers.
