Defoamer It generally consists of multiple components with different functions, namely a primary antifoaming agent, auxiliary antifoaming agents, a carrier, an emulsifier or dispersant, and a stabilizer or compatibilizer. The primary antifoaming agent is the main active ingredient, typically an insoluble particulate substance, such as hydrophobically treated silica, fatty amines, or paraffin wax.
Auxiliary antifoaming agents are active components that modulate performance, enhancing the surface‑active properties of the primary antifoaming agent and thereby boosting its effectiveness. Examples include fatty alcohols and fatty acid esters. Carrier: Provides structural support to both the primary and auxiliary antifoaming agents; water is a convenient and cost‑effective carrier.
Emulsifiers and penetrants: These enable the active ingredients of the defoamer to disperse rapidly in the foaming medium, increasing their contact with the surface and thereby enhancing the defoamer’s spreading efficiency. Common emulsifiers include organic esters and ethoxylated products. Stabilizers and compatibilizers: These are additives that improve the stability of the defoamer and extend its shelf life. In water-based defoamers, stabilizers are often preservatives that prevent microbial degradation during storage. Typical compatibilizers include oleic acid, hexylene glycol, and others.
Active ingredient: Silicone defoamer The primary component is a linear polysiloxane (English name: Polysiloxane, Silicones), which remains liquid at room temperature and serves as the active agent; polysiloxanes are mainly classified into the following types.
